On the western side of the N.Aegean, in the center of the N.Sporades island complex, you’ll find one of the less touristic or crowded islands, Alonnisos. Most likely it will captivate you with its unpretentious authenticity. Charming and pure, it is the perfect destination for a relaxing Greek island vacation filled with fascinating water activities. If you’re looking for a quiet vacation combined with great underwater experiences, look no further! With Europe’s largest National Marine Park off its shores and the biggest population of Mediterranean Seals (Monachus-Monachus), a lush green landscape on land, and numerous pristine beaches with crystal clear waters to lose yourself in, there’s no better place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Ikion Diving proposes one week of accommodation in one of the most beautiful niches of Alonnisos island, the unique and picturesque port of Steni Vala -where its dive base is located-, full of diving activities and moments of deep relaxation and high culinary delights.
With a direct flight from your country to the nearby island of Skiathos, you can scuba dive easily in the National Marine Park of Alonnisos Northern Sporades, the most important habitat in Europe for the Mediterranean Seal Monachus – Monachus. And for those who would like to visit the 1st underwater museum in Greece –a classical wreck from 5th century BC- Peristera’s swipwreck is one of our dive destinations.
This offer is for both enthusiasts but also those who want to become divers. For already certified divers we offer a wide variety of guided dives such as wreck dives, cave dives, cliff dives or night dives, in carefully selected and unique dive sites to experience amazing underwater seascapes. It is worth mentioning that our diving package (for advanced certified divers only) includes at least one guided dive on the wreck of Peristera, the first Underwater Museum in Greece, an already diving destination known as the “Parthenon of Shipwrecks”. For non-certified people who want to earn the most popular and recognized diving certification, we’ll provide everything you need to complete the famous PADI Open Water Diver course to learn how to dive safely and responsibly in open water to a depth of 18 meters. The duration of this course is min. 4 days.
For your information Skopelos Dive Center (in Skopelos island) and Ikion Dive Center (in Alonnisos island) are partners PADI 5star Dive Resorts and offer qualitative diving services in both neighboring islands. It’s the largest diving network in N. Sporades, which means that if you buy a service package (eg. 10 dives pack, or a scuba training course) you can use it in both islands in case you plan to visit both of them while extenting your vacation and island hopping. Although this Dive&Stay package is valid only in our dive base in Steni Vala, Alonnisos.
Ikion Diving is located in the center of Alonnisos island right in the heart of the National Marine Park, well sheltered in the picturesque port of Steni Vala –the last step before the uninhabited islands. Having one 9m long wooden traditional “Kaiki’’, a smaller inflatable speedboat and a 9seat transfer van for the sea and land transportations, the center organizes guided boat dives, discover dives for beginners, certification courses for all PADI levels, as well as boat cruises for guided snorkeling tours in the National Marine Park of Alonnisos. All diving and water activities are run under the supervision of experienced professional divers and guides, using reliable scuba equipment. Ikion Dive Center also gives high priority to actions supporting the protection of the local aquatic ecosystem and promoting environmental awareness.
All of the dive sites we visit are within the boundaries of the Alonissos and Northern Sporades National Marine Park. This area was the first marine park established in Greece and is the largest marine protected area in Europe at 2,260 square kilometers. The establishment of the marine park has allowed for the growth of diverse, healthy populations of marine life. During your visit, if you are lucky, you may even see the rare and protected Mediterranean Monk Seal either in the water or lounging on a quiet and secluded beach. From 2020, the first underwater museum in Greece is open to Advance Open Water Divers. The museum features a large merchant ship that sank around 425 BC while carrying thousands of wine amphorae. It is located at a depth of 25 meters (80 feet) opposite the port of Steni Vala, off the island of Peristera. In addition, there are 4 other pilot sites to be added to the list of accessible underwater museums with shipwrecks from different eras (Classical, Elinistic, Byzantine). All archaeological sites are located at depths that can only be visited by advanced certified divers (approx. 25-35m), accompanied by an accredited professional dive guides.
Steni Vala is on the southeast side of Alonnisos, about 10 kilometers from Patitiri, the main port. The route will overwhelm you as you pass through dense pine forests and superb olive groves. As you descend towards Steni Vala cove, a meandering road offers panoramic views of the Marine Park’s islands. Steni Vala’s unique virtues are its landscape’s tranquility, the deep blue sea water, and the small-scale but lively port with sailing boats from all over the world. The visitor will find traditional taverns with delicious local flavors, coffee shops, a mini market and a giftshop-boutique, all within an environment that maintains the island’s colors and authenticity.
The accommodation, which is within the same complex as the dive center, is at Ikion Group (Rooms & Studios), a facility just 100 meters distance from Glyfa beach. It has everything you need to feel at home and is a place where you can truly relax. Each room has its own private side-by-side balcony with a lovely view of the sea (1st floor) or the lush garden (ground floor), filled with Mediterranean and aromatic plants and trees. And for those moments when you just need to kick back and relax, Ikion Café-Bistro is there for you. It’s a place of serenity, offering breakfast, meals, and drinks. Here, you’ll enjoy the refreshing smell of morning coffee mixed with the soothing scent of iodine, all while the hum of the cicadas provides a natural soundtrack. Don’t miss the stunning view of Steni Vala’s picturesque harbor from our evergreen, bloomy terrace!
The offer includes a 7-night stay at Ikion Group and a diving package. You can choose between 10 Guided Dives (for certified divers) or a PADI Open Water Diver certification course (for beginners). All rates below are per person in a double room (single room upon request) and in Euro. To secure this offer, make your booking by mid-April 2025 and deposit 50% of the total cost. More analytically the offer includes:
– Accommodation in Twin or double (bed) rooms (c.25 m2), with bath-WC, private balcony, TV, minbar, Air-con, Free wireless Internet access, COCO-Mat mattresses.
– Some of the rooms (studios) are equipped with a kitchinette. Reservation of a studio is upon request and availability
– Use of the Ikion Group’s facilities (parking area, café- bisto, Grill-barbeque, Wi-Fi, etc.).
–Ten guided dives per certified diver (2 dives per day) including use of tanks and weights, boat transfers (or/and car transfers) to the dive sites, and underwater professional guide.
– There is an alternative option for a non-certified person to enroll in a 4-days full course for obtaining the PADI O.W.D. scuba diving certification instead of guided dives. The course includes introductory dives in confined waters and 4 open water dives (all dives are performed in the sea either from the shore or with a boat) with a PADI instructor, the eLearning guide* for the knowledge development of the course (see how eLearning works here), medical insurance DAN (Divers Alert Network) during the course and the certification fees.
*The e-Learning digital manual is sent via email to the participant and its completion is a prerequisite for starting the practical in-water diving sessions. Through the e-Learning guide the student will complete at his own pace the theoretical part prior to his visit to the island

This offer applies only to the following specific dates:
–Beginning of the Season: from 1st of May until 30th of June, an excellent period for visiting Alonnisos and Sporades islands before the ‘big touristic wave’ and heat of July and August.
–End of Season: from the 10th of September until October 10th , a wise option to have vacation in Greece, when the sea has the warmest water temperature and the island is quieter and back to normal rhythms after the busy months.
During these months Greek seas are considered ideal for both scuba diving and snorkeling due to friendly temperatures and visibility in the water. Indicatively, average sea water temperature is around 25o C and the water visibility is usually more than 30m.
